Daisy  Duke

Yes, I'm ready for another treat.

Daisy was born on 31 March 2002.  At age 5 weeks Daisy and her sister Dixie were adopted into our family on May 2002.  Daisy was so unusual looking when we brought her home, she had this big cone on her head and Scott began calling her a little baby hippo.   I think this gave her a complex.  She is the one female that looks the most, what is the word, I guess serious is a good one.  She is short, muscular, intimidating and not afraid of anything.  But on the other hand she is so sweet and loveable, you just want to put her in your lap and rock her.  That is hard to do now since she weighs 75 pounds.  Since we brought Daisy home, for some reason she has always wanted to sit her water container.  This did not impress the other dogs when they all shared the same living area.  Now that she is to big to sit in her water container (and she stills tries) she will put her front feet into the water and then if possible put the back ones in and if she can’t do that then she will take her front ones out and then put her back ones in.  In the summer time we constantly have to give her clean drinking water.  We usually try to keep one container in for her to drink and another one for her to wash her feet.  She delivered her first litter of puppies (7) in September 2004 and was very attentive and motherly, but definitely not gentle.  She was so funny taking care of them.  If they were touched by humans, including us, they were washed by her.  The first couple of weeks she only left their side was to use the bathroom and then was right back in the bed taking care of them.  She wanted us to hold her food bowl in the whelping bed so that she could eat without having to disturb her babies.  I told you she was sweet.
